What does Homigo mean?

HOME + AMIGO

Home

Safety & belonging

Comfort, familiarity and a place where you feel you fit in.

Amigo

A local friend

Friendship, guidance and someone who has your back.

HOMIGO = a home, found in a friend.

Why was Homigo founded?

“What happens when you arrive somewhere you don’t yet know how to navigate?”

Homigo was born in Uganda so that no one has to figure out a new place alone.

Tap a challenge to see how a host helps:

Transport

Your host agrees boda and taxi fares up front and rides with you until the routes feel familiar.

What is Homigo?

A soft landing in a new place.

Homigo pairs you with a verified local host, a trusted friend on the ground who helps you arrive, understand, navigate and belong.

  • Not just a bed.
  • Not just a ride.
  • Not just a tour.

A real person who knows the place, the people and the language.

How does Homigo help?

From stranger to at home.

Get matched

Whether you flew in from abroad or moved from Kampala to Mbale, a new place can feel foreign. We’ve got you.

How does it work?

Four simple steps

    Tell us about you

Where you’re going, when, your budget, languages and needs.

  2. 2

    Get matched

We pair you with a verified host who fits you, not just your location.

  3. 3

Navigation, culture and logistics, with morning and evening check-ins.

  4. 4

    Settle in & belong

Go from newcomer to confident local.

Meet the hosts

Real names. Real records.

Every profile shows identity confirmed, clearance on file and ratings earned from completed bookings, before you commit a shilling.

Your safety comes first

Trust, built in.

Every host is vetted and verified

National ID checked against the register, a selfie liveness check, two references contacted and an interview with our team. Hosts with a police clearance carry a Police cleared badge. About 1 in 4 applicants passes.

Private in-app chat and calls

Talk and call inside Homigo. The Privacy Shield hides phone numbers, emails and social handles, so no personal numbers are shared.

An emergency button that shares your live location

Hold the button and your live location goes straight to the Homigo support desk, which coordinates with police and vetted transport.

You approve trip expenses before any money moves

You pay Homigo, not the host. Your booking is held in escrow and released only when you confirm the host delivered. Extra costs need your tap first.

“Technology doesn’t replace human trust. It reinforces it.”

In their own words

From newcomer to confident local.

“I had been scammed twice booking through an agent on Facebook. With Homigo the money sat in escrow until I actually met my host. That alone was worth it.”
Amina O.Expat · Kampala · Mar 2026
“Seeing the police clearance date on the profile sold me. Not a badge someone bought, an actual date I could ask about. My host answered before I even booked.”
Thomas K.Tourist · Jinja · Jan 2026
“I moved from Kampala to Mbale for work and couldn’t speak a word of Lumasaba. Two weeks with my host and I was bargaining at the market myself.”
Nakato B.New to the district · Mbale · Feb 2026
